You can also sign out if both phones are signed into the same account and have each sign in on their own account. I'm guessing at this point where it is. Are you and your wife sharing an Apple ID? If so, that's most likely the cause of the problem. You should each have your own.
You can use Family Sharing if you want to share purchased content. Nope, not there on my iPhone. But thanks any way. I've tried deleting and reloading the app. No luck. Restarting the the phones.
