Need some ideas on what I can do for my bf, we have been together 4 years and its his 32nd birthday coming up in few weeks and I have no money. He has said not to spend money on him as he knows I have nothing but would like to do something special. I was going to cook him a nice meal but we have the kids and before we know it it will be really late at night before we can sit down, but its still an idea. Any other ideas for a cheap but tasteful birthday??

Picture album Vouchers for things he would enjoy - eg. As you have children could you get them involved? Make it a family meal with them helping out not sure on ages , maybe some cupcakes or a cake decorated by them, handmade cards etc. A big Happy Birthday homemade banner. Also I knwo you said you have no money but if you have a spare few pounds have you looked on ebay for some little wrap ups? Especially if hes in to anything 'geeky' like star wars or star trek.

Thanks for the ideas, I am going to get the kids to make him a birthday cake and they are looking forward to that although I dont think my kitchen is! Will look on ebay now and see, although I never know where to start on ebay but am sure wont take long to get the hang of it. If you are not used to ebay when not head to some car boots at the weekend and see what you find.

Its amazing what you can find at car boots! In similar situation - we have little money to spare as a family and I got given a hand written time off voucher from hubbie for christmas. Hubbie looked after our and her kids. Also seen that you can buy these time off vouchers cheap romantic vouchers on amazon if you need inspiration. Maybe a picnic the day after as got kids? All the best. You don't need to spend money or even leave the house.

Taking from the Make do and mend programme, how about a homemade picture frame with a picture of your family. Time off to relax from the kids. When its my husband's birthday I always but my daughter to bed and do the washing up. For his last birthday we invited over his parents and I cooked them his favourite takeaway dish.

I found its the little things that count. Vouchers - As mentioned these can be a range of things from sexy treats to domestic chores. Bake him a cake - whilst i dream of being nigella its not something i do that often but I always make him a cake. It doesn't cost much and my OH loves the effort and laughs sometimes at the appearance!

You could always get the kids to help. Day Out - Have a look to see what free events are on near you if you can get a baby sitter. Museums, art gallerys and even concerts can be found. If so search ebay or charity shops for something daft he'll love. I remember buying my OH a chorlton and the wheelies video and he loved it!
